Some people love murder mystery parties just because they’re fun and different from a typical party, others go all out. They’re in it to win and get really into solving the mystery. As a murder mystery party in the Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC areas, we see a lot of people who are going for the win but haven’t been part of an event like this before, so they’re not really sure how to go about it. Since we just want everyone to have a good time, we thought we’d share some of our tips to solve a murder mystery at one of our East Coast Murder Mystery parties.
Here are some tips:
- Everyone is a suspect: Forget who everyone is in real life and look at them as strangers that they are. Aunt Judy may be the sweetest person on earth, but tonight, she might be a cold-blooded killer.
- Stay focused: Clues can come up when you least expect them. Don’t get distracted by mixing a drink or wondering where the host got that super soft throw that’s on their couch. Keep your head in the game and notice details.
- Look for clues everywhere: Clues aren’t going to come stamped with glitter for them to be noticed. It can be a prop, something an actor says, or even a body movement.
- Take a step back: Remember to stop for a minute and process the clues you’ve found. Think through the story and information gathered and see how it all connects. It’s not a scavenger hunt where one just keeps roaming around until one finds the answer. It’s more about gathering information and piecing it together to see the full story unfold.
