Costume Ideas Across Our Murder Mystery Themes
At East Coast Murder Mystery, our parties are all theme-based. We have three central mysteries, and we always encourage attendees to dress in costume to match that night’s theme.
We decided to recommend costume ideas to match up with each of our murder mystery themes for this blog post:
- An Invitation to Die: This story is about a billionaire business tycoon whose wife will host a party in his honor. Guests can dress in formal evening wear such as a suit or tuxedo for men and a cocktail gown for women. If a guest plans on playing detective, they can dress as their favorite police detective from television.
- Catastrophe at the Cinema: Set in 1920’s Hollywood, this mystery is perfect for great costume ideas. The Roarin’ Twenties are known for their fashion. For women, the flapper look consists of drop-waisted, fringed, or beaded cocktail dresses accessorized with a feather boa and a long cigarette holder. Men can wear colored suits with silk ties, cufflinks, and carry a walking stick (Picture the cast of “The Great Gatsby”). Do not forget the shoes, ladies – Mary Jane heels match perfectly!
- Death Before Detention: This mystery is set in the year 1985 and at school serving weekend detention – If that doesn’t remind you of The Breakfast Club, what does? Guests should bring out the mousse and the hairspray, and they should make their hair big again. Men need to dust off that denim jacket, parachute pants, white Reeboks, and fanny pack. Women should dig to the back of their closets for the oversized sweater or the blouse with shoulder pads, polka-dot skirt, long hair scarf, and matching boots. Of course, everyone needs to remember to wear their Ray-Bans.
Whichever mystery you choose to have, dressing to match the theme makes the night even more special. To hear more details about our mysteries and to schedule one, contact us at East Coast Murder Mystery today.
